When starting my online business, I spent a lot of time looking for information to help me decide which courses and ebooks to buy. It became quickly obvious that there was a lot of information out there! So many so called gurus were promoting material that was guaranteed to make me huge money quickly. When I checked a few of these out they often lacked substance and were too difficult for a novice to follow. So I turned to review sites that purport to give an unbiased picture of the options. The problem I found with many of these was that the review sites almost immediately would ask me to opt into a mailing list with the promise of a free gift or report. This naturally made me quite suspicious of their motives and so I began to wonder if I could trust their reviews. I began to understand some of the reasons why so many people quickly drop out of this industry.
So now came the question, how can I differentiate between the good products and those that actually deliver very little. As my experience grew, I found review sites. These sites give an overview of the material being offered and in some cases compare similar products. However you may then ask, well how can I believe these review sites? What I noticed was that some review sites immediately tried to get me to sign up for a free newsletter (often with a bonus gift attached). I assumed, often quite rightly that a lot of these sites were just trying to get my email address to use in mail shots for product advertising. What I was really looking for was unbiased reviews that existed purely for informing potential customers. These were comparatively rare but they did exist and so it was on the advice of several of these sites that I joined an online marketing course.
What I found out was eye opening to say the least. Instead of what I had feared, namely a few ebooks and no content from the owner after purchase, I found a whole series of instructional videos, manuals and an active forum of members all helping each other. The program owner also was a regular contributor to the forums and gave excellent one on one help if required. This validated everything I was trying to prove to myself - that with some diligence and patience you can find online resources to help complete beginners sort out the wheat from the chaff in the world of online money-making resources. I now have a small empire of websites designed to make money every month.
So to summarize, my advice to anyone else in a similar position is to just do the research. There are so many adverts out there for material that promises to deliver the stars and it is very easy to get drawn into the claims. However many will be at best exaggerated and not give you the information you need. By finding a review site that gives you an unbiased view and does not attempt to sell you anything or give you something supposedly for free, you can select a course that suits you.
